Summer days have just ended up. The alarm clock suddenly stops ticking and BANG! I almost forgot it was the start of my 4th year in high school. Another span of writing promise-sorry-notes and last minute scenarios in school.
I look at the window. The weather seems to be a guessing game based on a play of sun and rain. Despite the chance that sun will shine today, I’m still hoping that news will suddenly flash on the T.V. screen declaring that there will be no classes in Cavite. Sigh. I’ll definitely be the first to rejoice if that happens. On my way to school I am still trying to remember my activities during summer and I find it quite boring, because I haven’t done much during my summer vacation.
Summer is a little drop of blessing in this busy school year. I can sleep whenever I want even if somebody on my inbox greets me “GOOD MORNING!” I have the privilege of enjoying the unlimited promo of my cell phone’s network. Prime time Television viewing is not forbidden. No assignments. No worries. No teacher everywhere who seem to speak spontaneously 24/7 which is unhealthy for my eardrums. No service cab that will beep in front of our house when I’m late. No difficult exams which brings my brain into the “Hardcore arena”. And most of all, I can wake-up naturally without the sound of my horrible alarm clock. This is just a part of my Three-pages-back-and-fourth-list-of-the-best-things-in-summer. I’m pretty sure that 99% of my generation will agree if this ‘list’ will be published on school papers. Laugh.
Summer rocks! It is the hottest season of this tropical country. It is the much awaited time on or before April fool’s Day. May was the most exciting for me. It is when our family have gathered and celebrated the 81st birthday of my grandmother. News tidbits were here and everywhere in our home, which makes it noise polluted. I’ve got to see my cousins and extended relatives. My Lola is the coolest of all. She allows us to speak with her conversing our generation’s lingo. She didn’t mind if we use words like, “CHAKA”, “EPAL”, “MOKONG, “KOLOKOY”, “EMO”, “KUMAG”, and thousand of rare words that even us don’t know where the heck it came from. All we know is that this sort of ‘kalokohan’ spice up our arguments. It is indeed one of the happiest and memorable yet daunting experience I’ve ever had last vacation. Why Daunting? Because I was assigned to wash a bunch of dishes after the occasion (grrrr!). Oh! I almost forgot I have to thank Lola for my new pairs of shoes.
For now, I have to focus on my studies. One step and I’m into college. And as I write this blog a new understanding has blossomed in my mind. That summer is undoubtedly the best season next to Christmas. Therefore, it should be spent to the fullest, living behind all the stress and worries in my mind. It is a good time to enjoy and strengthen family bonds. Yet, I should bare in mind that the world is moving on, and each and everyone of us have responsibilities of their own.
